A downloadable Walk for Windows, macOS, and Linux

Hey, the sun's out and it looks like a really nice day for a walk.

We can go to the park, maybe we'll meet some people, maybe even play some ball with them. Oh! Ice cream! Yes! We're definitely having some ice cream by the fountain.

Come on, let's take a Walk in the Park!

What is this?

A Walk in the Park is a short game experiment, inspired by Minimalistic Jam.

I wanted to explore minimalistic gameplay, instead of presentation like the jam revolves around. Essentially exploring what makes playing a game interesting without the structure of rules and framework, in the same way we used to have fun as kids, playing outside.

The mechanics in here and reasoning behind them are things that have been swimming around in my head for a while, ideas that I want to continue to exploer. But ultimately, I just really wanted to have a nice walk in the park, in the sun, after experiencing two and a half months of rain in Reykjavík!

How do I play?

Well, an XBox controller is recommended, though keyboard WASD + E will do just as well. oh and B (controller) or Shift will let you run, if you were wondering.

Anyway, that's enough words...

Put your shoes on and let's go!

You have a great sense for the sound design. :) I liked the way you staged the different scenes of a small park excursion, though you did not use hyperrealistic graphics or anything like that. You leave the biggest part to the imagination of your players, and that's really a big challenge that you have mastered excellently. This balancing act between minimalist aesthetics and atmospheric experience has been a great success in my opinion. That's why I've decided to recommend your jam game along with two other great submissions in our compilation article about the Minimalistic Jam 3. <3 One minute of gameplay can also be seen in the accompanying video. :) Great job!

Best wishes,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian!

Thanks for the kind words! I'm stoked you decided to recommend my game with the other two great submissions!

I'm also really glad I was able to create this sense of experience for you, with this minimalist approach. Giving the player a gentle frame to encourage the imagination to do the rest is EXACTLY what I wanted to do! Thank you again for the kind words and for recommending my game!

Cheers,
Jói
